After a busy day of running kids all afternoon I headed out the house with Cole to go to his award ceremony. We got about a mile down the street and had to turn around to get the camera battery which I had been charging. Quick turn around back in the car and to the ceremony. Only to find that the camera wasn't turning on.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have the worst luck with cameras. Seriously so I spent a ton on this camera a year ago so I wouldn't have the problems anymore.(at least what I thought was alot) So no camera for the award ceremony.
They have the kids sit in assigned seats in the auditorium so that they can call them up in their teams at school. When they call Cole's team I see him stand up and be very animated with the kid in front of him. Yes waving his hands around jumping up and down. I couldn't figure out what the heck he was doing. They walk over in front of everyone and he still continues to talk to the girls around him. Then they line up on the wall and they are waiting their turn and he is at the end of the row from where I am. Still being ubber dramatic with these girls I wait to try and get his attention..nothing.... Then I just you know do what mom's do psst... he turns I motion for him to calm down. He smiles and turns calms a little but continues to talk.
He took a nap is that what gave him all the energy or what? As they call each name they politely shake hands and walk across the stage. They get to my son and he shakes the principals hand then turns and looks at the audience and does his two thumbs up and smile pose. Some stupid/funny look he does and evidently is his signature at school. The teachers just giggled and the audience wasn't sure what to make of it. The students laughed. I was like oh my only Cole! He received an award from his Language Arts teacher. Each teacher gets to pick a student of the year from their class and he got it from her.
Afterwards I go to find him to tell him I was going to the car to make a call to Sebastian. He essentially blows me off. Well then...
On the way home we stop at 7 eleven to get a drink and he is leaning over in the car getting something out of his bag when I see a lady run up to the car window. I role the window down as he lifts his head to be spooked by this lady who happens to be his History teacher. She is a spaz! He doesn't like her but I do. I thought it was so funny! It freaked him out he jumped so high it was too funny. I thought that made up for his blowing me off.. :)
We were talking about what he did on stage and I said so what's the deal are you like the class clown. He said No I am the COLE! Ok then.. All year all I have heard is how wonderful and talented he is. He is a good kid, can drive me crazy sometimes but I love him. I am proud of him for becoming the leader he is and the standards he stands for. He is a bit on the silly side but some how he knows his limits at school and never passes it with his teachers.
I can't lie it scares me a bit sending him off to high school this next year. High school girls, high school football and all the other things that go with it. I guess I just have to trust that he knows right from wrong and will do what is right and stay out of trouble.
I have a feeling I will be burning a whole in the rug on my knees..
