The kids were all excited about having a day off from school. I kept telling them that I still had to work even if they had the day off. I only had a few patients to see so I figured it would be an easy day. YEAH whatever!
I had called my kids saying I was headed to see the last two patients and would be home shortly. Little did I know that I would end up having to call an ambulance for the first one I saw. I saw something that I find very touching and interesting. This patient is the sweetest lady she really didn't want me to call for an ambulance. She was so worried who would take care of her house and dogs. She didn't want anyone to break in. As soon as the fire trucks and ambulance came around neighbors came running. She had me asked them not to use sirens. Come to find out it was because if they came with sirens people would know she wasn't in her house so they would break in. Hmm interesting concept.
I have noticed that in some of the worst neighborhoods in Fort Worth where I go they watch out for each other especially for the ederly. I don't know if you would get the same response from some other neighborhoods. It was kinda funny the little lady from across the street pushed past the firemen telling her that she couldn't come in there was no room. She squeezes on the porch and starts knocking on the window. She is yelling the patients name saying I am here honey. It was so sweet. She her self was suppose to be in bed but wanted to help her friend.
I do think that you would get the watchers in other neighborhoods just not the willingness to help. I had seen this in another area as well. An elderly lady and several community programs started to gather outside her house. It just happened we all came at the same time to find a gas leak and the crazy women was still smoking in there. The neighbors again came making sure she was ok. I enjoy watching and seeing the good in people come out you don't always see it.
My patient finally agreed to go after she had 2 people tell her they would watch her dogs and her house. She didn't want her house broken into but told the young man to leave the back door unlocked she had no key..... Wow, luckily her family had a key to lock up.
Ok now back to my kids. I finally got home and I took them for a afternoon/night of family fun. True interaction. Not a movie which they love to see I thought they needed something they could interact with and form memories. SO where did we go? BOWLING!!!!!
It was a blast I have some crazy pictures I will post. Malcolm developed a new way of bowling. I can't wait to show the pictures. I am missing the cord to upload them. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able too. It was a lot of fun.... We then ventured to Barnes and Nobles. Alex knows no meaning for inside voice so he is clear across the store and MOM Guess what I found? I guess you will always have one. Right. It was a good night. We laughed, sang, danced and learned new things about each other. Yeah I said dancing. You should have seen it. They liked the music so much they were dancing at the bowling alley. I have to say they play some pretty catchy music.
Till tomorrow.

I can't wait to see the pictures of bowling. Bowling is one of my favorite things to do. I really STINK at it but thats almost what makes it fun. I just do crazy stunts and don't care about the gutter balls etc. Thanks for the story about your patient. i'm glad she took your advice and went to the hospital and she has good neighbor's to watch her house.
