I am always amazed at how your life changes as your kids get older. This being an election year we have had quite a bit of political conversations. From the beginning I have told them to make up their own mind and look at all the facts and then decide who you like. Eve is late to the party on this. She is just figuring out things and asking questions while the boys have decided.
Last night we got home from going to Costco and I turned on the TV to the debate. Everyone piled into a chair/couch and settled in to watch. This blew me away. All of them saying shhh when someone would try and ask a question. I do have to say I love my DVR. I can stop and start a million and one times to answer questions. So I did this last night. As they would make their points I would stop it to answer questions or explain the situation they were talking about. It was quite interesting because I had a conversation with my Dad this last week about McCain being one on timing and how he would come out swinging at this debate. I was glad to see him do it. As I would explain the situation with Obama and who he associated with. Or McCain and another situation. My kids were very impressed that I knew something. YES! (for once you mom knows what she is talking about.) I tried really hard to not push them one way or another. So anyways at one point when McCain pulled out the punches with the JO the plumber story. I was YES! I said this out loud. To me having to stop and explain where the story came from and why he brings it up. Then he lets Obama answer only to finish his Jo the plumber story with a GOTCHA!. I have never in my life liked the debates let alone cheer. But let me tell you I was. There were a couple of high fives between me and the kids when McCain finally stepped up and showed them what he was made of. Ok my point... all through the night Eve was so what is McCain gonna do better than Obama? Over and over she is a doubter. Which I can't blame her. McCain wasn't my first pick but he is the lesser of 2 evils. So after the questions 10 fold I finally said "Eve are you playing Devil's advocate with us?" Oh, ok I used a word or words she didn't know the meaning of. I do this on purpose always have to make them think and learn something. Her response quite upset" ARE YOU CALLING ME THE DEVIL?" No, and I preceed to try and explain what it means. Malcolm chimes in while he is laughing.. tell her to look it up. I always made them. I couldn't for anything get her to understand it wasn't a bad thing. I still don't know if she thinks I was being mean or if she ever understood what I was saying. My ex-husband Ramesus. Loved to play Devil's advocate when we were working out a problem. Even when we agreed at the solution. He would do this to get under my skin. Ugh. i just figure this was the result of her being around him. He does it to them too.
This was the point no matter how hard I tried I was falling asleep with Sebastian already asleep in my lap. I was so tired. The kids thought it was funny. I did fall asleep long enough for Malcolm to get the remote out of my hands and I wake up to them laughing. I am so proud of them for realizing at such and early age how important the elections are. How they do have a say in it. They can make their own decision on what and who they like. If you grow up with their dad's side you have to be democrat even if the guy running was Pluto they would vote for him just cause he is a democrat. My family tends to be Republican. I on the other hand always wanted to ruffle the feathers with people and went with whoever I felt would do the better job. So I hope they learn that part from me.
I have been working at the hospital alot and I am feeling the results of it. Between my regular job and working the 2nd. I am constantly tired. Don't get me wrong I am very thankful for my jobs... But if you happen to be talking to me and I zone out it has nothing to do with the conversation. :)
Everyone seems to be doing good. School is good for all of them. Cole lost his first game Tuesday. I left at half time to go to work at the hospital. The were trying him out in new positions. I hated that I missed it. He said he played on the kick off team that night too. I can't believe how fast he is getting. He is trying really hard to pick up on his time and it is working. Malcolm is getting ready for state competition. His band director started a new thing that if you mess up you do push ups. If the director points out your mistake you do more. But if you admit to a mistake first you do less. So the other night he came home saying he must have done 60 or 70 pushups. hmm(heart?) my first thought. He said everytime he thought he might have messed up he would do pushups. He would rather do it that way then have to do more. Too funny. But that is the area of his chest he wants to more in shape so the pushups will help.;) Not too much with Eve except she turns 12 in one month. OH MY GOODNESS> Alex and Sebastian are same ol same ol. Although I will share a story that shows how both boys have this right and wrong thing down. Alex was sharing with me that yesterday the kids in lunch detention had bought a snack. The teacher walked up to him and said you can't have that you should have been good and you could have it. She preceeds to take it and eats the kids food. The kid paid for it with his money and she eats it. This sent the boys over the top. Me too. I was stunned at what the teacher did. Well kinda I know the teacher and nothing she does surprises me. (give you a clue on what I think of her)The injustice in the world the thougt for a teacher to do this. Isn't this stealing they asked. I am glad the have right from wrong down but how do you explain that unfortunately we live in a time with injustice is every where.
Well it's time to go get the kiddos from school and proceed with the business of our lives.
