We are now home. It has been an incredible roller coaster ride the last couple of days. Let me just say we are very blessed. We are blessed to have the family and friends we do who were so quick to jump to action whether it was phone calls, visits, prayers, meals. You all are so APPRECIATED.
We got home yesterday evening.Malcolm was so excited to see the house. You would think he had been away for months. At the hospital they moved so fast once the Doctors said he could go I had no time to call anyone. So he wanted to surprise everyone at home. I was talking to Grandma on the phone when I found out our car and hers were both about the same distance away from the house. Luckily I drive faster. So we beat her home and pulled the car in the garage so when she came home and walked in the front door as she walked to her room Malcolm was standing there. He thought that was so much fun to do that.
About the Hospital>
Ok they gave him a final diagnosis.
Malcolm saw the specialist we were waiting on. He specializes more in the rhythm of the heart. After looking over the test from the last few days he was able to give a formal diagnosis for what is occurring with Malcolm's heart.
1. AV node reentry Tachycardia
2. Atrial Fibrillation
It falls under the broad spectrum of SVT.
Tuesday night he did really well. He had several irregular patterns but the medicine they have him on is keeping them from changing the rate and rhythm of his heart. He only got up to 110 last night. They discharge him late this afternoon sending him home with his own portable monitor. He doesn't have to wear it all the time just when he feels the sensation come on he places it to his chest and it records the heart. We then send it in over the phone. This will help us know when he is in a different pattern or rate. We have had a couple of bad patterns last night but I have been reassured that they will watch them and the doctors will let us know if its something that he needs to go back in for. It also helps us know if the medicine is working.
Today he had two more episodes where his heart really acted up. He is getting so frustrated with the whole thing. We were headed out to get him a cell phone and had to back in the house so I could send it over the line to the monitoring company and they could get a new strip to see if it went back into the right rhythm. He doesn't quit understand why it is important to do it right away. No matter how I tried to explain he still was frustrated with the whole process.
About an hour later the Doctor called and said they had received the updated strips and weren't liking what they saw. So we are going to up his dose of medicine. If by this weekend he is still having problems they may have to change the medicine or go ahead and do the procedure early than thought. If they have to change the medicine it may mean he will have to go back into the hospital to get it regulated.
I decided that with the combination of being in high school and band and now the heart deal he needed a cell phone. So we went and picked one up and turned on Cole's phone he had too. Wow, now they have phones they don't communicate. It is looking at their phones, texting their friends saying hey we have phones..... I am glad they are enjoying themselves but I told them if they have them out at dinner they are mine.:)
I have been very touched by all the responses I had from family and friends and even people I didn't know from church. Everyone has been so sweet and loving. I do have to put down a situation that Malcolm experienced that really touched his heart and mine. My friend Deb and I went to nursing school together and I found out during that time she was in Mansfield ward. We got to be really close she saved me alot from the stress of school. She came up with her son Michael came to see Malcolm yesterday. The two of them brought up some odds and ends to help keep us entertained. But what meant more than anything is that Michael who is only 8 picked out some of his own game cube games and brought them for Malcolm to play. Deb and her family have had some very difficult experience at Cooks hospital this year. Maybe that is why they both new how much that would mean to him. I don't know if Deb will read this she's not much into the blog thing. But just in case. Deb your visit meant so much to me. I was so stressed at that moment and seeing a friendly face helped me get through the rest of the afternoon. Love ya.
I am hoping to get back to the normal family setting around here. I am trying so hard not to want to check his pulse every 5 minutes. I think if he was younger I would be totally holding him all day long to check it. ( good thing he is older I totally wouldn't get anything done.) Cole and Malcolm were giving me a hard time because I refer to his heart problems as episodes they say it makes it sound like episodes of rages. SO if you hear me say episode it is about the heart.:)

Heather I am so glad that Malcolm is home and doing well. Hopefully the dr's will be able to get the medicine to work and life will return to normal... well a new normal anyways. Wish we could be closer to helo with everything but know that you're family is in our prayers!!
I'm glad to hear that you guys are home. We will continue to pray for you guys.
Side note: your friend Deb...I think that her baby Jacob is buried right below our Breanna. The last time I went out to the cemetery I saw his grave marker for the first time and it had an Angel Moroni and a temple on it. I asked my dad about it and he told me about a family in the Mansfield Ward that had lost their baby not too long ago. I think it is neat that they are right next to each other.
That is very sweet that they are buried next to each other. Thanks for the prayers.
