Question for mom?

This is the conversation I just had with my Daughter Eve. Now let me say that several weeks ago we had a family meeting to discuss budget in our family. I have been trying to teach them the idea a family lives on a budget and teach them how to stick to one with their allowance. I also was talking to them about picking up extra hours at the hospital to put money in savings, etc.

Eve: "mom if you worked at the hospital everyday would you make lots of money?"

Me: " yes, it might kill me.":)

Eve: " Then why don't you do that then we will have lots of money."

Me: " Sweetie, then what do I do with all of you. You would be bored, want to know when I would be home. Want me to take you places. Plus the hospital is to hard to work everyday."

Eve: " So just go back to working the 3 or 4 days you were working before you changed jobs."
pause...
Eve: " I just thought if we don't have enough money..."
me: " We do have enough money to live on I just need to save extra and pay for the extra things coming up."

Eve not looking like she understands. I continue....

Me: " Let me show you something..." I show her what I would make in 3 days at the hospital compared to what I make now at my current job.

Eve: " I don't want you to show me all this, I just think if you go and work 2 weeks at the hospital then you would have extra money and can go back to your job now."

Me: " Eve what do I do with my patients while I am working at the hospital?"

Eve looking a bit puzzled " OH!"

This scenario is something I go over my head so much. Do I do this or that. But I tried to reexplain the reason for me just doing the weekend nights compared to changing all together. The hospital is so hard on your body that once you hit the floor nursing routine more than full-time is a killer.

If only you could explain to an eleven year old this whole concept.
I decided that she thinks we made a whole lot more money then because it was before we up sized the house and so there was more money extra. I guess this is why.. Who knows it is a curious thing to get an insight on how kids minds work with money and such.
