Life lessons and new years goals...

I am always amazed at the life lessons that I learn from my patients. I have one patient that just turned 90. She also happens to be the grandma of Beth a friend of mine. I get the awesome opportunity to be her nurse. So I get to visit with her every week. I usually stay with her for over an hour.
After the crazy family christmas we had I was talking to her about it and she about her family. As I talked to her I realized how when things like this happen you have to find something good to take from it. Learn from it and love your family through it.

I can't remember exactly what she said that caused the ah ha! moment but I left there feeling so much better about how to deal with things in my life. She is so great. It is funny how close I feel to her. Everytime I leave her house she gives me a big hug and tells me she loves me. Evelyn is her name too. She loves that I have an Evelyn too. Evelyn has this amazing love for others. Even though she is 90 she is still feeding the missionaries sometimes twice a week. And is always trying to help someone else. She is quite spunky which at times is humorous on her take on life. It is usually very true but funny.

Why I started writing about this? I remember now... It made me think about the goals or resolutions we set every year and changing them to really be more important things in our lives.

I sat down with the kids at dinner and we went through goals we had. At one point Malcolm told his goal and someone asked him about grades he said oh no that isn't a goal it is a have too. Which he is right.
We have be healthy, eat healthier, be nice to brothers, don't lie, Be organized,
spend more time as a family having fun, Being more helpful to others among other things.

I am looking forward to many great things this year. 2008 brought us some crazyness from Malcolm's heart diagnosis and by the end of the year his heart procedure that fingers crossed fixed them. Malcolm starting high school, Cole starting Junior high, Eve going into Young Womens. Sebastian turning 8 and being baptized, Alex starting his last year of elementary school. We have had lots of ups and downs and I am grateful for them all. We have grown stronger as a family and learned that with every gray cloud you can find something good out of it. It hasn't been an easy year by any means but definately not one we will forget.

January 2 and we are doing fine.... So far so good right?

Have a great year. I know we will!
