Tomorrow will be the 1 year anniversary of my grandfather "Granddy" passing away. He was 94 and probably one of the biggest Texas Tech fans ever. Which was a contrast to his brother who was a Texas Longhorn fan.
My mom joking said she bet Granddy was there helping them along. Score was 39-33 Tech winning.
Granddy once told me the story of him going to Texas Tech. He talked about being there and making a decision to leave so he could support his brothers and sisters and parents during the depression. I think what I found funnier is that his father was a lawyer and before the depression had done pretty well for themselves. Multiple houses etc. Then when the depression hit everything change. He made the decision to go to Tech not to be a lawyer but become a dairy man. He felt that being a lawyer you only got paid with chickens, eggs etc... So he wanted to be paid real money.Hehe
He did very well for himself even without the actual degree. But what was more important was taking care of his family. Later in life he looked back at his decision and never regretted it. To him his integrity was the most important thing. Something a piece of paper could never give you.
We were at a very different place than we are now. We were trying to wrap our minds around losing someone who meant so much to us. Tomorrow we will celebrate all of our memories of having him as our Grandfather.
GO RED RAIDERS!!!!!
