I never realized the stress that comes with having a child in the hospital and trying to balance your family and work. I mean I knew that it was stress. In July when everything first started I took off those days. This time I really didn't have the time to do that. So I have continued to work.
I can't imagine having a child that is in the hospital long term. I have a special admiration for those parents who balance it all. Even though I have my mom their at the house but for the kids its not the same. Especially when they aren't feeling the best. I have even see Eve's mood change from this week.
Ok what I was really getting on here to do is update everyone on Malcolm. Well he is bored however once I brought up the laptop he hasn't been as bored. They started him on new medicine the day after we came in. After started a patient on new medicine (heart meds) they want to watch them for 3 days. So we were doing the wait and boom. Last night he had quite a bit of trouble. It didn't bother him too much. Except for the part where he had the nurse and the nurse practitioner to bear down. It was so funny listening to them. I wanted to go PUSH PUSH...It really sounded like the birthing shows.lol. Ok let me explain they have you bear or is it bare? Anyways, this is called a vagel manuever and it can change the rate of your heart. They want him to do that before giving him the heart stopping meds. Well it would work for a minute and he would shout up. He stayed in the 190's for a long time. Long enough the nurse wouldn't leave the room she wanted to watch him. The nurse practitioner gave him a big dose of Digoxin to maybe help him. They also found out he was in the range he needed to be effective. Well magically at 6:30 he stopped. It was shortly after the dose of medicine. He tends to do this at the same time of the day. We didn't know if it had to do with him marching but last night he definately wasn't marching. And it stops at the same time. Just his crazy body. It did it again about 8:30 briefly.
I had kids at home needing me at home. Malcolm here and I really felt a need to stay here since I didn't think I was going to be able to be here Friday or Saturday since I work that night. That would have left me only being here at the hospital 1 night with him. Talk about feeling guilty. He was so sweet. He was telling me don't worry I am fine they need you more than I do. But the whole time you could see he wanted me to stay. I eventually decided to stay here at the hospital until midnight then go home to get the kids out the door the next morning.
Things worked out that my nephew came over tonight to stay with them. Thank you Dalton you are a life saver. It just what my kids needed to get there minds off of things. Alex and Sebastian just have so much fun with him. He was showing them when I left how to do the work out he does to keep his 6 pack.lol They were loving it.
Oh yeah, I waited for the doctor today and she said since the medicine wasn't working they would change it tonight. He doesn't seem to be able to handle going as long between doses so they change the frequency. We will be here at least until Monday. That will be the 3 days. Monday morning they will do another blood test to check levels on digoxin. If they are good and he hasn't had any more problems he can go home Monday. Malcolm was please don't give me anymore problems. He is missing Marching band and being with his friends.
I do have to say I am glad we have the laptop up here. I think I would be pulling out my hair if we didn't.
I do have to say I have just really been impressed with the nurses. Especially his day nurse the last 2 days Melanie. She was great with him. Come to find out she used to work at the hospital where I work now so she knows alot of the nurses I work with. She was trying to get me to come work here and do pediatrics. If it weren't for the 12 hours.
I just got back to the hospital. I went home at 6pm to go spend some time with them. It was nice I took Eve and Cole and my niece Hannah to Target while mom took Alex, Sebastian, My nieces Georgah and Rebekah to play at Mc Donalds. It was nice to be back to normal sorta. Then we went by to get Dalton. He has new car the kids thought was soo cool. Get this it is a 1986 300zx (i think) It is so funny be cause it is a cool car with the moon roofs, pop up lights. You remember the cars right? Or am I that old? Cole was man 80's cars are so cool. I just had to laugh.
Well I am tired so off to try and get some sleep.
