How do you get 7 boys the ages of 8 to 10 to sleep? I decided to brave another sleep over for Alex 10th birthday this year. We did this last year but I didn't remember the chaos until they all started showing up again tonight. They are all a good bunch of boys but put them together what do you get?
45 minutes of football in the backyard. (would have been longer but it was too late and dark)
2 hours of games in the house like tag, dodge the ball, monkey in the middle etc. All games that cause bodily injury or breakage if possible.
The 2 hours was probably longer. I kept my sanity while one of the mothers stayed and chatted. Which I really enjoyed my visit with her it was fun to get to know her.
But once she left it seemed like energy level multiplied. Maybe it was I wasn't distracted anymore.
Anyways, we ended up with one injury luckily it was my son. Alex fell into the piano bench and hit his head pretty good. Then one kid with hurt feeling wanting to go home.
Asa got his feelings hurt and thought no one liked him. The group of boys are very competitive. Asa isn't as much. Asa and Alex have been friends forever so I have Asa come sit on the couch and tried to get him to talk to me. No luck other than they don't like him. So Alex gets up off the couch where he was still recovering from his head injury and sits down next to Asa. He leans his head over on Asa's shoulder and says I want you here. They talk quietly and Asa tells Alex what is wrong. Next thing I know Asa is ok and the two of them are sitting and watching tv. I finally convince them to go get pj's on if they have them other wise to go watch Tv.
Now while I am typing this I have 2 little boys scavenging the older boys room for xbox games and then they are "Miss Heather the xbox keeps turning on" I asked them if they are messing with the controllers? They said no. My response. " Oh didn't you know we have ghost?" No lie these boys stop in there tracks. hehehe. Then Cameron pipes up " Oh that is ok my grandma has ghost in her house all the time." Now Cameron is Beth (Babina) son. So I know Beth wouldn't care about me saying that. I don't think Tyler's mom would either since she gave me permission to use the wooden spoon on her son that is here with Tyler. I laughed when she told him that and said you know what we use it for here? He said no... Ice cream!
Oh what is funny is Cameron looked under Alex's bed. Oh boy. So I am fairly easy going on my kids rooms until they get to the point they get on my nerves. Well the little boys have a bunk bed and storage boxes at the front. So I don't think of checking under the bed unless I see something. This little guy looked under the bed found some gummy worms that fell out of the package next to the package and said hmm candy. He picks them up and eats them. OH Heavens!!Yes that is boys for you!
They are now taking the xbox apart not literally but to take it downstairs to play. Good luck Grandma sleeping.
Parents are to return in the morning around 10am. The older kids all went caroling with 5th ward with their cousins and then they were taking the youth to a skating rink at midnight to skate and then spend the night at people's houses.Eve will be staying at Hannah's, Malcolm and Cole will be at Dallin and Dalton's houses. They will be hanging out with their cousins. Which is cool. I am glad they have them close to hang out with. The kids miss 5th ward and the activities they do. Plus I think they enjoy hanging out with their cousins other than family functions.
I have to tell you about my day and how the night started. I wake up at 6:30 actually feeling very rested. I hear Eve come in. I look at her almost confused and ask her why she is up. "uh mom it is 6:30." What I was suppose to get malcolm up at 4:30 for seminary. I forgot to set my alarm last night. If Eve hadn't set 3 alarms to get herself up we would have totally missed school today. I woke Malcolm and he had all of 20 minutes to get ready. I get everyone off to school on time and I go start seeing patients. Well since I didn't charge my phone it dies when I get to my first house. Then I leave my blood pressure cuff at his house.By the time I figure this out I am in my next patients house. UGh! not good. Luckily she isn't having blood pressure problems. Ok skip to later in the day. All day I am dealing with chaos with patients and nurses and doctors and families of patients. Good grief I had such a headache by 2pm. I attend Sebastian's party for 30 minutes before going to get Malcolm.
I head back out to get my cuff from the patient's house once he called and said he was home. Went and saw another patient. I get home to find jobs not done. I lost it a bit. But recovered. Oh yeah on my way home Malcolm called me and said he had a toothpick stuck in his foot. What? Seriously? So I come home thinking just great I have how many boys on their way to the house in and hour or so. I deal with the toothpick and have to promise that I can pull it out gentle even though I am stressed. It was kinda funny I pulled it out and he was still saying no it hurts just leave it alone. Cole starts laughing" Dude it's out"
Cole informs me he has lost his bag at school. It has papers in it, library book and several other things. Great he needed to read that book over the holiday.
I have Cole go use cleaners on the upstairs bathroom. Then a few minutes later yell mom come here there is water dripping. I go into my diningroom to find water pouring out of the light. YES the light. Oh my gosh I turn off the light tell the boys to go check the bathroom somebody grabs a picture. Then I run upstairs to check on the problems. WE have a temperamental toilet upstairs and when Cole cleaned the toilet he hit the piece and it overflowed and flowed and flowed. Yikes. We get it all cleaned up but not before it was leaking out the vent too. I swear really this is at 6:30 and the kids get there at 7:30. We shampoo the upstairs carpet and I ban all kids from the area.
Crazy day huh. I was trying to veg out when the boys started arriving.
I am so ready to go to bed. I missed doing all of my paperwork tonight but I really enjoyed talking to Jennifer tonight. What surprised me is that she asked about church. Out of no where. She said they were really interested in finding a different church. She knew the kids went to a church activity. So we talked about it a little and got side tracked with the boys. I sure hope I handled it well. I will probably invite her to come to church on Sunday with us.
Well all the boys are playing xbox and I will check on them again and hope my house stays intact.
Good night wish me luck!!!!
